Nick Carter

Nick is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (formally the IEE), a Member of the UK Engineering Council and a Chartered Engineer. Educated at University College London, INSEAD and London Business School he has spent most of working life in utility management and regulatory framework design and has advised many organisations on modern utility best practice in the Middle East.

Current Positions

He currently occupies a number of positions with companies involved in the energy and regulatory businesses, these include:

• Advisor to the President of the Electricity and Water Authority of Bahrain
• Immediate past position - Senior Executive Advisor with FTI Consulting – providing advice and support to the energy and utilities sector based in Abu Dhabi but delivering a wide range of projects to GCC and EU countries.

• Design and issue of the first electricity and water network economic price-controls in the Middle East (Dec 2002)
• Design of licences and regulations for water, wastewater and power activities
• Issue of the first comprehensive Electricity Wiring Regulations in the GCC based on European Standards
• Formation and corporatisation of Abu Dhabi water and electricity distribution company (ADDC) (Deputy Chairman and MD)
• Sector reforms, restructuring and implementation —Abu Dhabi Emirate (Advisor to Abu Dhabi Government)
• Design and implementation of water and power tariff reforms

• Private networks acquisition for Southern Electric Plc(General Manager – Senior Executive)
• Restructuring and integration of private operations companies into the body-corporate of Southern Electric Plc
• Restructuring of London Electricity’s distribution networks control, operations management (General Manager)
